What is BromAid?

This site contains the principles and procedures common to the following participating companies which collaborate in dealing with bromine emergencies on a European basis.
Albemarle Europe Sprl
LANXESS
ICL- Industrial Products
This site outlines the arrangements for dealing with actual and potential leaks or spills of bromine, owned or manufactured by these companies. It describes the emergency service that the companies provide for incidents at bromine recipients’ premises and in road, rail or water transport and the agreed arrangements for making their specialised services available for any incident where such services can provide the quickest help.
These information is intended to be complementary to particular national and international chemical industry schemes. The umbrella organisation for such schemes within Europe is the European Chemical Industry Council (CEFIC) with National ICE (International Chemical Environment) schemes being established for the majority of European countries.
The arrangements serve to supplement the steps taken by the individual companies to ensure that suitable arrangements are made, not only for the safe movement of hazardous goods but also for minimising the damage or injury which could arise should an incident occur in any stage of distribution.
Each participating company has a system for receiving emergency messages at any hour, day or night, and for relaying those messages to the appropriate company officials. This ensures that expert advice can be quickly given and that, if the situation warrants, a trained team of specialists can be sent to deal with the incident.
The company which has supplied the bromine, accepts the general obligation to respond to the emergency. The arrangements, however, provide for another of the participating companies to respond so as to save time, provide reinforcement or lessen the effects of the incident. This is conducted on the basis that a manufacturer or trader who has asked another company to send personnel to the scene of the incident remains in control of the overall support given to relevant authorities. The assisting company acts on behalf of the asking company, either throughout or until the latter’s representative reaches the scene.
This document describes how the assistance is enlisted, the facilities available and what the companies undertake to do to maintain an efficient service.
